CHANDOS Symphony Orchestra completes its year's programme with an all-English programme of Bax, Britten, Delius and Elgar on Sunday (November 5).

The orchestra, conducted by Michael Lloyd, resident conductor with the English National Opera, will be performing at The Forum at the Malvern Theatres at 7.45pm.

The programme is Bax's Tintagel, Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem, Delius' Walk to Paradise Garden and Elgar's Enigma Variations.

It will be the third local concert this year for the orchestra, following its appearance at Worcester Cathedral in May in a National Federation of Music Societies concert and at The Forum in March.

At the March concert the orchestra numbered 115 players for Shostakovich's Symphony No 7 and Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 3, featuring Chase deputy head Aydin Onac as the soloist.

Chandos also ran its annual Young Musician Competition and two workshops at Ledbury Primary School.

Plans for 2001 are on similar lines with some changes. The Young Musicians competition is being switched from St Mary's Convent School, Worcester, to Hanley Castle High School and is being brought forward to February 3.

The first concert will be at The Forum on March 11, featuring Strauss' Til Eulenspiegel, The Chairman Dances from John Adams' opera Nixon in China, Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances and Respighi's Fountains of Rome.

On May 20, The Forum will again be the venue for Brahm's Piano Concerto No 1 and Bruckner's Symphony No 4 and the soloist will be pianist Anthony Goldstone.

The final concert, also at The Forum, will be on November 18 and feature Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No 1, with soloist Edward Bale, and Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique.

The workshops will be on February 4, a strong workshop, and September 8, full orchestral, both at Ledbury Primary School.

Tickets for Sunday's performance are £8, £10 and £12 from 01684 892277.
