MALVERN Town whose scheduled game at home to Bustlehome last Saturday was washed out, more than made up for a weekend of inactivity with their defeat of Kington Town in the Banks Brewery League Premier Division at Kington on Tuesday night.

Town Assistant Manager Richard Anson said: "We were disappointed that Saturday was called off, as we were looking to follow on from our excellent victory at Halesowen Harriers.

"Certainly the downpour caught us all out, as at 1.30pm the pitch was passed fit, although the match referee wanted to carry out a precautionary inspection at 2.15pm.

"Unfortunately, in the next 45 minutes the torrential rain rendered the pitch, in the eyes of the referee as unplayable. We were a little disappointed with the decision, but in hindsight, as there was no let up all afternoon, he was probably correct.

"However, we more than made up for things on Tuesday, with a performance that was amongst our best of the season so far. If we can maintain this sort of standard I still do believe we will not be far away at the end of the season, it is just that we are no longer in a position to afford any more of the mishaps we suffered at Walsall Wood and we must ensure we pick up three points at home to Ettingshall."

Tomorrow (Saturday) against Ettingshall, Town will be without skipper Sean Cotterill, but welcome back Johnny Hayes and Adam Ward who both missed the Kington game.

Simon Judge who got through his second successive 90 minutes for the Reserves on Saturday and showed that he had not lost his goalscoring touch with a hat-trick, also returns to the squad.

Manager Joey Rawle will select from: Sanders, Higgins, Clayton, Hayes, Damore, Sharma, Brooks, Walker, Ward, Thomas, Phillpotts, Slade, Shepherd, Judge and Maidment.

Town have no midweek fixture.
