ON Saturday evening of September 30, part of Malvern experienced a 30-minute power cut. It was also a clear sky at the time.
For the first time since all night street lighting was introduced, I could see the Milky Way against a pitch black sky from my doorstep. It was a wonderful, rich band of light across the sky, with thousands of stars, set above in a truly black sky. It was absolutely glorious!
Alas it did not last long enough for me to get settled in a deckchair with binoculars or do some astrophotography. All too soon, the power was restored and soon after the sky became a yellow glow again, and I was glared out by intrusive poor quality street lighting.
Please Mr Electricity Company, can we have another power cut on a clear moonless night? In the early hours of the morning would be fine with me. Can you make the next one more widespread and a bit longer? Please let me now when it can be!
