I AM writing to support the views of Adrian Ward in his drive to remove the Town Council.
It has always been my personal declared view, even before it was set up, that the Town Council was not necessary and that it would become an expensive talking shop unless it was very careful. I believe that this has, sadly, been the case.
The Malvern Committee of the District Council, which largely had responsibility for the functions carried out by the Town Council, had a budget of around £250,000 in its last year.
The expenditure of the Town Council is now two to three times that sum and will undoubtedly increase when the new council offices are functioning and the new staff are all on board.
I should be quite happy to support a town meeting, which had the objective of a referendum to get the views of the electorate.
