I have read with interest the correspondence about the building of a sports hall in Priory Road on the site near the Splash.
Having discussed the plan with people in the town, I feel we are in danger of having half a facility and history repeats itself.
The Splash does not have a real swimming pool and the sports hall will not have a full compliment of courts.
Why not build a proper sports centre near to where the bulk of the population live i.e. Malvern Link, with room to provide for all indoor sports, enough parking for cars and coaches (for visiting teams) and for expansion if required.
Even if we waited a few more years, how much better to have a centre like Perdiswell on our doorstep.
The site in Priory Road could provide expansion for the Splash complex and
give Malvern and the schools a full-sized pool with diving boards.
Swimming is a popular sport and has to be taught to all children but there is not a good public pool for competitive swimming in Malvern. The Splash has a leisure pool but cannot be used for competitions because one cannot dive
into it nor is it long enough.
With an imaginative modern design the new pool could compliment the Victorian site to give the feeling of a
conservatory with sliding glass panels to give open air swimming in the summer. Imagine how that would draw people to Malvern on a sunny day!
What do the people of Malvern want? Have they been properly consulted on
the development of the site? I haven't been asked nor has anyone I have met.
