GUEST speaker at the October meeting of Powick Guild was Charlie Knight who is a fund raiser for the County Air Ambulance.

He spoke of the work of Air Ambulance and some of what it had achieved since its inception in 1991. The cost of maintaining this vital service is £2.4 million per annum or 28p per person per week. Slides of accident scenes on rail, road and farmland were shown and views of incidents in the Welsh Mountains and other inaccessible places where the air ambulance proved so essential. He was thanked by pat Smith and given a donation on behalf of the Guild. Refreshments were served by Edna Jenkins and Sheila Crump. The November meeting is on Tuesday, November 14 when PC Nick Revell will speak on Community Policing at 2.30pm in Powick Parish Hall.

The Harvest Gathering held on October 7 was a successful event, enjoyed by all who attended at Powick parish hall. The buffet supper, was very appetising and the entertainment provided by "Unforgettable" - Suzie Walden and Stephen Watkins - was first class. The evening has produced approximately £250 for the Hall funds. The Committee is greatly encouraged by the support given by members of the community and users of the Hall following the alterations and extensions at the end of last year. Unfortunately, the re-surfacing of the car park and re-alignment of the temporary driveway and the landscaping of the area adjacent to the car park has not yet been completed. The Parish Hall and Community Room, provided for all residents of the Parish, is available for hire, as is the hire of tables, chairs, crockery and cutlery. Enquiries should be made to Roger Gurney, Secretary on (01905) 830756.

Powick Parish Ramblers held two day time walks in October. One was a five mile circular walk of Worcester starting at Diglis Basin and following the towpath along the Worcester to Birmingham Canal to Barbourne. Leaving the canal at Gregory's Mill the path led over Gheluvelt Park to the River Severn, along the rive side to the Cathedral steps, and back to Diglis. The walk was enjoyed by ten people and seven year old Juliette Wilkes.

The second walk was a circular walk around Callow End starting from the Blue Bell and encompassing St Peter's Church and Powick Hams and following Carey's Brook and to the Upton Road.

The walk for November will be on Tuesday, November 7 meeting at 10am at the Blue Bell, Callow End. More information from Bill and Pat Ash on (01905) 830094.
