FOR the contributors of this column, whom on occasion have been known to wrap themselves in the Union Jack (metaphorically speaking), please consider this?

Last May, the people of Gibraltar objected to the Royal Navy carrying out repair work on a nuclear submarine on their island. However, the Royal Navy insisted to carry out these repairs, in spite of the islander's objections.

This weekend the Royal Navy recalled all killer-hunter submarines and has put them out of service to check for possible leakage of nuclear-contaminated material.

Apart from the obvious possible danger to man and the environment, this was an appalling and despicable behaviour by the Royal Navy towards a colonial country who always been courteous and friendly towards Britain for nearly 300 years.

The only waves cool Britannia rules now are the swaying "Promenaders" in the Albert Hall.
