SIX top musicians from the district will be performing solo this month in a concert to mark the climax of the Wyre Forest Arts Forum's Young Musicians Platform 2000.

The stars of the show in Kidderminster library's gallery will be violinist Catherine Hearnshaw, flautists Sarah Rose and Nancy Tomkins, oboist Sarah Barbour and sopranos Beth Dunn and Charlotte Ledger.

They have been selected to display their talents after a series of events in Wyre Forest throughout the year, which culminated in a perfor- mance at Kidderminster's Holy Trinity School last month.

West Midland musician Jeremy Patterson made the final decision from a total of 13, including singers, woodwind, brass, piano and strings players.

Town organist Tim Morris, leader of the planning group behind the project, said: "The forum aims to ensure that the high standards of music teaching and performance in Wyre Forest are recognised and rewarded, especially in the millennium year.

"We are delighted at the high standards of performance which this project has displayed, and we know the final concert will be an event not to be missed."

The youngsters have also recorded their solo pieces to make CDs and cassettes which will be on sale at the concert.

Each soloist will also receive a cash award and a copy of the CD, presented by Geoffrey Weaver, who is the musical director of Kidderminster Choral Society and the director of Outreach with the Royal School of Church Music.

Tickets for the concert, at 2.30pm on November 19, are priced at £4.50 and £3 for under 16s, students and pensioners. They are available by sending a cheque and stamped addressed envelope to Mrs V Seville, 5 Merricks Close, Bewdley.
