FERNDALE girls U-14s convincingly beat Cannock Chasers 9-3 in the Central Warwickshire League Shield Cup, despite atrocious conditions.
Playing her first full game for the team in defence, Sam Grove suppressed the Cannock attacks.
Holly Penwarden opening the scoring and with strike partner Sam Rogers notched up five goals, while Nikola Palmer, Vicki Roberts and Stacy Whittall added the others. This followed a 3-2 loss at Leamington Lions when player-of-the-match Roberts and Penwarden scored.
Ferndale host Coventry in the next round of the cup.

The Flyers were in front for the majority of the game through Kirsty Hughes (two) and Robyn Corfield.
But two injuries allowed Youth back into the game and Sarah Lojko grabbed her second hat-trick in as many games with one for Lydia Maule and Frankie Hocking.
