ST PETER'S CHURCH: The Church of England is sometimes accused of being old fashioned, lacking behind the times or not updating its services of worship. But last Sunday when St Peter's Church at Wellesbourne combined a service celebrating this year's One World Week (October 22-29) with its Family Service for Children, these accusations could not have been further from the truth. The large congregation enjoyed a service in which more than the usual number of children and teenagers played a major part. 'The Story of Mudamma' a talk by Catherine Jackson who recently returned from a visit to India, fitted well into the theme of the celebration. Items of 'Action for Fair Trade' and 'Waiting for My Lord', a song by Children's Church inspired the whole congregation. What better proof that Sunday Worship can be fun without neglecting tradition. There will be a memorial service at 4pm next Sunday, November 5.

WELLESBOURNE AND DISTRICT LIONS CLUB: Throughout the year Wellesbourne and District Lions provide many services for people living in Barford, Hampton Lucy, Wellesbourne, Moreton Morrell, Gaydon, Kineton, Loxley, Ettington and neighbouring villages in our rural area. Coming up to Christmas they will be hard pressed to man their Christmas floats.

Over the years the sight of the Lions cracker, church or giant Christmas pudding followed by Santa with gifts for the children and his team of Lions helpers has been a regular feature. This year the Lions have been asked to help at the Snitterfield Garden Centre and a Christmas event at Compton Verney. All this means manpower and here is a direct appeal for help. The Lions would greatly appreciate helpers to join their team, even if only for one or two evenings. This is not a long term involvement but anyone who is interested in active local service would be welcome. To find out more, please phone Lion president Paul Gibson (01789 841730), Lion Peter (Barford 624174), Lion John (Ettington 740283), Lion Vic (Kineton 640329) or Lion Brian (Wellesbourne 840597).
