A SOAP star who donated a gift to be auctioned for charity in Kidderminster this month has died.

A coat worn on set by Coronation Street star Elizabeth Bradley, who played battleaxe Maud Grimes, will be auctioned at St John's Club, Crowther Street, for Children In Need.

The soap favourite donated the coat along with a Coronation Street script for the auction which will take place on Friday, November 24.

But this week widow Elizabeth died after collapsing while on holiday with her son in France.

Auctioneer Andrew Mayall of Phipps & Pritchard, Kidderminster, said: "It has taken organisers 12 months to collect an excellent range of goods but more pledges are needed.

" The Coronation Street gift was a very kind gesture. How much it sells for would depend on who is there on the night."

Among other gifts being auctioned are two aeroplane flights, locally made rugs, meals out and football memorabilia.

Any businesses or people interested in donating a prize or offering a pledge should call Sally Rollings at St John's Club on 01562 740037.
