A KEEN gardener who entered his allotment for an annual award was not "plotting" success after a gap of 25 years since he last entered the competition.

But Graham White has reaped the rewards of his hard work to come up smelling of roses in this year's Wyre Forest District Council Allotments Competition.

His patch in Aggborough won that district's award and the overall Best in Show to beat 51 other entries.

Mr White, of Aggborough Crescent, Kidderminster, said: "I was quite surprised. I did not expect to win.

"I think I won because of the great variety of fruit and vegetables on my allotment and the fact it is virtually weed-free."

Mr White comes from a long line of gardeners.

Both his father and uncle were green fingered and his grandfather Thomas White was employed as a gardener in Wyre Forest.
