GENEROUS Vale people have been spooked into handing over more than £800 for the Vale of Evesham Volunteer Centre - in the nicest possible way.
The centre held its annual halloween fair last Saturday and chairman of the fund-raising committee Pauline Cobb said the poor weather appeared to have deterred some, but those who braved the elements enjoyed themselves.
Assistant organiser Helen Gittins said: "We're so grateful to everybody who came along despite the terrible weather and made it the success it was."
In the fancy dress competition four-year-old Liam Richards took first place in the under fives category while Samantha Barratt was first in the five to nine age group.
The event was supported by the Journal, which donated gift tokens to the winners.
