Littleton 3, Bewdley Town 5

LITTLETON bowed out of the Worcestershire Junior Cup after a good game played for a large part in driving rain, supported by a gale force wind.

Bewdley struck first after five minutes when, following a neat interchange, Paul Matthews shot home from close-range.

Littleton almost equalised immediately when a defensive header hit the inside of the post and rebounded clear.

The equaliser wasn't long in coming, though, when Craig Tennant ran through to flick home after 15 minutes.

Back came Bewdley and Steve Mares hit a crisp cross shot past Pennington to restore their lead.

Littleton again equalised quickly, this time through Steven Payne who followed up when the keeper fumbled a fierce Chris Wright drive.

Ten minutes later Littleton were ahead through a powerful strike from Curtis Major which might have taken a slight deflection.

The lead was held until the 48th minute when a corner by Paul Field flew directly into the net.

The wind by now was stronger than ever and both sides pushed hard for the advantage. It was Bewdley who seized the initiative when Gary Middleton headed in to make it 4-3.

Littleton were now forced to push men forward in search of an equaliser, but they were dealt a cruel blow 12 minutes from time when Bewdley were awarded a dubious penalty. This was converted with by Middleton to seal an away win.

The match was sponsored by J & P Cole.
