YOUR article Parents battle on buses did not go far enough in highlighting the dangers our children face when boarding school buses. The reality is that the whole area of school transport provision must be looked at sooner rather than later as an accident is waiting to happen, either directly involving one of these buses or as a result of lack of supervision when boarding or alighting.
Perhaps it is now time for the community to take responsibility for the organisation and provision of local transport, road safety and policing in their area. This would ensure that not only crossings, traffic lights and proper speed restrictions would be in force, and enforced, but also that everyone in the community would be safe in the knowledge that their community is a safe place to live.
If this were the case then St David's School would not have to consider dipping into school funds to bail out the county council who, obviously, do not believe that safety is a key issue.
