STOURPORT Hockey Club's men claimed their first win of the season when they defeated last season's runners-up Lewes 4-3 in National Hockey League Division One.

The result lifted them off the bottom of the table into sixth position.

Philip Lashford opened the scoring for Stourport after 20 minutes but Carl Wright equalised for Lewes 10 minutes later.

Lee de Souza put Stourport ahead again in the 35th minute and Jamie Chambers added another goal at the start of the second half.

Ben Hawes narrowed the gap with a penalty shot and Will Champness brought the scores level with a penalty corner.

However, Lashford's second goal after 66 minutes secured victory for Stourport.

Stourport 4ths 1 Cannock 1

MATTHEW Jenks grabbed an equaliser for Stourport with ten minutes left after good defensive work from sweeper David Read and keeper Ian Evans kept the score down.

Despite good work in midfield by Steve Taylor and David Sheppard, the home defence was under a lot of pressure for 15 minutes and Cannock got the first goal five minutes after the start of the second half.

Evans and Read kept Stourport in the match and Jenks grabbed the goal five minutes after the Cannock centre-forward was red-carded.

This match had to be abandoned due to torrential rain, which flooded the pitch, when Stourport were leading 1-0.

Harborne 3 Stourport Ladies 2nds 2

Despite pulling back two goals in this Worcestershire First Division match, Stourport went without any points when a goal in the dying minutes deprived them of the draw.

The home side went ahead 10 minutes before the interval and went further ahead soon after the break but Zeta Guest and Haley Reece pulled the scores back level.

Stourport continued to push forward but Harborne had the last word four minutes from the final whistle.

Stourport Ladies 3rds 1

Worcester Norton 4

The visitors forced the pace for the opening 15 minutes in Worcestershire Division Two but then Stourport's keeper was taken ill and had to go to hospital.

Worcester found a way through the defence and scored two quick first-half goals.

They grabbed two more despite good linking midfield play by Stourport who were soaking up plenty of pressure.

Rosie Williams just failed to connect with a cross from Wilma Martin but then a mistake let Martin in and she pushed the ball for Williams to score Stourport's lone goal.
