AT the autumn group meeting, hosted by Sandhills Green WI, members heard a talk by David Howe about the wives of Prime Ministers entitled ''The Spouse Girls''.
Many humorous anecdotes were related and only four Prime Ministers have not been married.
Gladstone was wed for 59 years and wrote numerous letters to his wife, all signed ''Yours affectionately, WE Gladstone.''
Queen Victoria was often called Mrs Melbourne because of her close association with her First Minister.
Some led fairly simple lives - Clement Attlee and his wife picnicked on the roadside on their constituency travels, while others, like Margot Asquith, were well-known in their own right.
Sandhills Green ladies provided an excellent supper for their 91 guests and also a difficult quiz to challenge even the speaker.
The rose bowl was won by Peggy Bennett for the hosts and the group Fairfield concluded the evening with great music and chat.
