GEORGE Rooney is walking away from the Victoria Ground with his head held high following his split with cash-strapped Rovers.

The former Worcester City and Bath City supremo struggled to find a winning formula during his four-month stint in charge, recording just four victories in 18 league and cup games during that period as Bromsgrove slipped to 20th in Dr Martens League Western Division.

But Rooney agrees the split was amicable, despite a clear lack of communication between himself and Pat Bannister.

He said: "For the good of everyone concerned it was best that I went -- sometimes you make it, sometimes you don't. It's been a very trying time for everyone with the off-the-pitch activities at the club but it was a footballing decision at the end of the day.

"I've got no axe to grind and there's no animosity from my part. Rovers are a smashing club with some very good people.

"There's a sadness because you make friends and you forge relationships but some relationships are better than others."

Rooney, who was scouting with Aston Villa before he was appointed to the Rovers job during the close-season, is undecided over his next move.
