PAT Bannister has revealed he is in no rush to appoint a new manager following George Rooney's exit last Thursday.

The Rovers chief executive advertised the job in the wake of Rooney's departure and has already received a number of applicants.

Included in the possible candidates are former boss Bob Green, who watched Rovers' 2-0 Worces-tershire Senior Cup defeat to Moor Green on Saturday.

Green was set to meet with Bannister for talks at last night's game with Stourport Swifts and is said to be keen on the job.

Former Bloxwich Town and Paget Rangers boss Paul Madders, currently working with Rovers' first team as fitness coach, has already applied for the post.

But Bannister will not be rushed into a decision: "I'm not in a desperate hurry to bring anyone in because we've got some qualified competent staff in charge for the time being. What's important is that we get the right man for the job this time round."

Eric McManus and Mick Betts have taken temporary charge of first team duties following George Rooney's departure.

McManus, a former Notts County goalkeeper, is currently director of recruitment at Derby County as well as director of football at Rovers.

He is the man looking to field the Pride Park outfit's youth team players at Rovers and will be helped by Betts, who is also a coach and scout at Derby.

Talking about Rooney's departure, Bannister said: "I told George that I wasn't happy with the results or the standard of some of the players he was bringing in. It was a mutual, amicable agreement that he should step down."
