I READ Janet Hill's comments (Evening News, October 18) on the new gates of the revamped City Arcade with interest.
I also think that these gates look hideous and I was surprised to read that the planning committee was never given the opportunity to comment on the plans.
The Iron Curtain in Blackpole Road is equally grotesque and our council planners allowed this eyesore to be erected.
The rotunda section of the new police station in Castle Street looks like an airport's control tower. The Quayhead Project, which we nearly had, was so innovative that it was only visible to certain councillors.
While I run the risk of being labelled a philistine, I don't think much of the emperor's new clothes.
