A DETERMINED Droitwich pensioner is preparing to do battle with planning chiefs again over unpaid business rates.

Nellie Copson, who lives above her shop in High Street, applied to Wychavon District Council's planning committee to change the use of her home from retail to residential.

On Thursday October 12, members resolved to defer and delegate refusal until after the expiry of the consultation period.

A new representation from a High Street resident will be made at the committee meeting tomorrow when the application is due to be discussed.

The authority's planning officers have recommended refusal of the plan, saying it is detrimental to the vitality of the shopping area.

Eight letters of objection have been received.

There is a 200-signature petition supporting Nellie.

Earlier this year, the defiant 81-year-old made national headlines after spending two days in prison for her refusal to pay £2,700 in business rates which had accrued over five years.
