TWO planning issues which have caused a stir around Redditch have been deferred yet again by councillors.

A plan for a housing development on land off High Street in Feckenham has been met with furious reactions from village residents.

At a planning meeting in September, councillors agreed to defer the decision and have now received a petition with nearly 100 signatures from angry residents and an additional 61 letters of objection to the scheme.

At the meeting, councillors announced they would defer the decision until a full site inspection had been done and apologised to the people of Feckenham who had turned out in force to show their strength of feeling about the proposed development.

The site inspection will be carried out on a Saturday before the next planning meeting on Tuesday, November 21.

And a representative from a leisure company which plans to build a health and fitness club where Megabowl stands has expressed his frustration after councillors decided to defer.

Letters of objection were received from Thornfield, owners of the Kingfisher Centre as they believed building the club in an out-of-town location, when they had already decided to build one in the town centre, would harm town centre vitality.

Thornfield also stated the town would not be able to sustain two such similar facilities, a fact which John Scribbins, from applicants Esporta Plc, refuted.

Mr Scribbins said: "We firmly believe the town can sustain both facilities. This decision being put off again is absolutely unbelievable."
