A REDDITCH police officer will be blowing his own trumpet at a concert to raise money for a youngster whose limbs were ravaged by meningitis when she was three.

Pc Richard Waterhouse and the West Mercia Force band will be performing at St Bedes Middle School on Saturday, November 25.

The concert will raise money for Georgette Mullen, now eight, who has undergone many operations in her short life, including one major one last year.

Her mum Vickie Mullen, of Boultons Lane, said: "Georgette lost her right hand, three fingers on her left hand, all of the toes on her right foot and two toes and the ball of her left foot."

Georgette spent four and a half months in a wheelchair last year after having an operation to treat a problem with the blood supply to her ankles.

But now Ms Mullen wants to send Georgette, currently at Mount Carmel First School, to a drama school in Bromsgrove which she hopes will give her daughter the confidence to cope with her disability.

She said: "The school costs £1,000 a year and being a single mum I can't afford it on my own. I am hoping the school will provide Georgette with a number of options when she leaves."

Mother-of-two Ms Mullen added: "I think Richard is lovely. What he is doing is fantastic."

Pc Waterhouse, who plays the euphonium and was a founder member of the force band in the late eighties, said: "We do a lot of charity concerts and raise about £14,000 a year. We are always looking for good causes to support."

The concert starts at 7.30pm at the Holloway Lane in Lakeside and tickets cost £4 and £2.50 concessions.

Tickets are available from St Bedes School or from Pc Waterhouse on 584888 based at Crabbs Cross police station.
