HAVING read Karen Lumley's letter (Advertiser, October 25), I cannot help but comment on her statements about our health service.

If we had left it to the Tories, our health service would be practically non-existent - that's the main reason they were turfed out of office in 1997 (among many more).

If she is of the opinion the folk of Redditch have short memories, they haven't.

It is the shortage of trained staff in our hospital services which will not allow the NHS to address the problems it faces.

The problems faced by the NHS are the direct result of 18 years of mean, short-sighted, badly thought through Tory policy.

Let us not forget it took the Tories 18 years to bring the NHS to its knees and it will take more than four years to repair the damage.

So, it seems Mrs Lumley should apologise to Jacqui Smith for what the Tories did.

Surely, as the Tory spokesperson in Redditch she must realise this and apologise accordingly.
