A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital today after a three-vehicle crash which closed a road near Worcester.

Firefighters cut the motorist from her Ford Ka which was in collision with a Toyota Carina and a Hi-ace van just after 8am near The Nash, just off the A38 at Kempsey.

Fire brigade spokesman Alec Mackie said two White Watch crews and an emergency cutting vehicle attended the scene.

"One woman was cut out of her car by the firefighters," he said. "She was quickly taken to Ronkswood Hospital by County Air Ambulance."

Fiona Harrison, spokeswoman for Worcester police, said the A38 was closed in both directions while the wreckage was cleared.

The driver of the blue Toyota Carina was thought to be uninjured.

A spokeswoman for Hereford and Worcester Ambulance Service confirmed that two people were taken to Ronskwood Hospital.

The woman airlifted to hospital was reported to have serious injuries, but they were not thought to be life-threatening.
