A DROITWICH Spa business is counting the cost of this week's storms.

The manager at Droitwich Land Rover, in Hanbury Road, Andrew Street, arrived at work on Monday to find three crushed Land Rover vehicles.

They had been hit by an uprooted horse-chestnut tree.

Mr Street believes the cars, worth around £60,000 in total, might be damaged beyond repair.

Motorists travelling through Hampton Lovett were forced to contend with flash floods causing mile-long tailbacks.

Sub officer Kevin Pugh, of Droitwich Spa Fire Brigade, in Saltway, said: "We didn't receive calls to waterlogged properties but there were many isolated pockets of flooding.

"In some cases, irresponsible drivers had to be rescued because they drove through floods when they should have turned back.

"Ford Lane and Briar Mill were worst hit."

A police spokeswoman said West Mercia Constabulary received a high number of calls for assistance and warned drivers to only attempt essential journeys.

Wychavon District Council is continuing to monitor river levels and is issuing sandbags from the Furlong, at Berry Hill Industrial Estate.
