A WELL-KNOWN figure in Bromsgrove sport appeared before magistrates on Monday charged with the attempted murder of two women and an indecent assault on one of them.
Secretary of the Bromsgrove Advertiser/Messenger District Football League Peter Townsend, aged 46, of no fixed address, was arrested following an attack on the two women, aged 20 and 48.
Police were called to the incident on Saturday at 3pm. The women had serious head injuries.
Both women were taken to Worcester Royal Infirmary, where the older woman's condition was said to be life threatening.
Townsend was arrested the next day and was remanded in custody by Worcester magistrates until Monday November 6.
