Redditch United 2

Blakenall 4

FOR the best part of an hour, Redditch's Ross Knight dominated this match.

His two goals gave United the perfect start and he could have set up two more had striker Paul Burton been back at his goalscoring best.

Blakenall had no answer to his skills and Reds looked set to record their first league win at the Valley Stadium this season.

But it all went wrong on 55 minutes when Knight, playing against his former club, was replaced by the ineffective Peter Sutton.

It later transpired Redditch's two-goal hero had been suffering the after affects of the virus that kept him out of last week's FA Cup tie with Burton Albion.

The visitors heaved a sigh of relief and promptly set about their hosts.

Knight netted in the 14th and 28th minutes to give his side a two-goal cushion only for Blakenall to be thrown a lifeline on the stroke of half-time when Martin Myers tucked the ball home after United keeper Dave Adey had collided with his own defender.

Skipper Darren Simkin levelled the scores on 64 minutes with a stunning 25-yard free-kick before Myers slotted home his second 12 minutes from time following good work from Tyron Street and substitute Ian Bennett.

Redditch had had chances to seal the game earlier on, James Cope missing out in addition to the goal-shy Burton, but they never looked in the match in the final quarter as the visitors swept them aside and Bennett wrapped up a remarkable fightback in the dying seconds, tapping home after Adey had pushed a Lee Knight header onto the bar.

Redditch: Adey 6, Mulders 6, Randall 5, Manton 8, Molloy 7, Cope 6 (Gillett 82), Knight 9 (Sutton 55, 5), Nicholls 7, Cross 6, Burton 6 (Dearlove 82), Smith 6.
