Redditch United (1) 3

R C Warwick (0) 0

After two months and seven games, Redditch finally recorded their first home league win of the season.

Midfielder Micky Williams capped a fine home debut with a 25-yard screamer sandwiched in between Jamie Hart's fifth of the season and a Jan Mulders penalty.

But the 3-0 scoreline flattered a Redditch side, who were indebted to keeper Dave Adey and Warwick's poor finishing for enabling the home side to take all the points.

The Reds should have taken the lead as early as the second minute when 17-year-old James Burke, making his full debut, was inches away from slotting home a fine ball in from the left.

Redditch almost paid for the miss when Warwick's Brian Agar picked up a sloppy clearance by Mark Dearlove, but Agar blasted the golden opportunity wide with just Adey to beat.

The home side finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Neil Manton's quickly-taken free kick found Nicky Cross, whose square ball was forced home by Jamie Hart after Burke's mis-kick.

Warwick attempted to get back on level terms and went close on the half-hour when Geoff Amos' free kick forced Adey to save.

In the closing seconds of the first half Redditch almost doubled their lead with Paul Molloy's left foot effort cleared of the line by Colin Wells.

Reds did double their lead five minutes after the break when fine work by Burke set up Williams to strike from distance, his shot cannoning in off the post.

The visitors immediately attempted to get back into the match and were denied on three occasions. Rob Forsters free kick enabled Agar got behind the Redditch defence to hit a fierce volley which saw Adey pull of a fine save down to his left.

Agar was thwarted again on 62 minutes when he capitalised on the Reds' inability to clear the ball but was stopped by the faintest of touches by Adey.

Sandwiched between Agar's strikes, was a header from Williams who was relieved to see Adey pull off a fine reflex save to ensure the midfielder did not score at both ends.

Reds wrapped up the points 10 minutes from time when substitute Jan Mulders converted his second penalty of the week, after Hart had been felled by Darren Weston.

Gresley Rovers (0) 2

Redditch United (0) 1

Redditch were seconds from leaving Gresley with a valuable point but a defensive lapse in the 89 minute allowed the home side to do the double over the Reds.

The victory, their first in seven games, also exacted revenge for the Reds' recent trophy success over the Derbyshire outfit.

After a stalemate first half, Gresley took the lead midway through the second half when substitute Graeme Fowkes crossed for fellow substitute Dave King to volley home from close range.

Reds levelled on 76 minutes when substitute Jan Mulders struck home from the spot after Gresley's Steve Coates needlessly handled the ball.

But the home side sealed the points in front of their lowest ever league crowd of 294, when Ian Pitt headed home unmarked.

Redditch: Adey, Manton, Randall, Williams, Molloy, Gillett, Mulders, Field, Cross, Hart, Cope. Subs: Burke, Sutton, M Smith.
