Dr Martens League Cup

Worcester City 6 (1)

REDDITCH UNITED 1 (1)

Redditch crashed out of the Dr Martens Cup at the hands of Premier division rivals Worcester City after a woeful second half performance.

But it could have been a different story had the Reds taken their first half chances.

Just 75 seconds into the match Redditch created havoc in the home defence with Ross Knight's teasing cross scrambled away.

Five minutes later Redditch should have taken the lead when Knight and Peter Sutton worked the ball down the right and fed Nicky Cross, who watched his effort rebound of the woodwork.

Paul Danks was inches away shortly afterwards his lunge failing to connect with Sutton's throughball.

City capitalise of Redditch's generosity on 14 minutes when Mark Owen scrambled the ball home from a corner.

Redditch got back on level terms in first half stoppage time when Jan Mulder's headed in Sutton's in-swinging corner.

But having got back into the tie, Redditch self-destructed in the second half conceding five goals.

The first was gifted on 57 minutes when the normally reliable Dave Adey spilled Owen's powerful 18-yard effort, with Andy Lutz the first to react.

Reds went 3-1 down two minutes later when Owen brushed Neil Manton aside twice on a 35-yard run which ended with the ball rocketing past Adey.

Keith Knight added to the misery on 69 minutes heading in from close range after John Deakin's cross beat Adey and rebounded of the bar.

A minute later Owen grabbed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after he was brought down by the luckless Manton.

The rout was sealed nine minutes from time when Steve Lutz fired in City's second penalty of the night after old boy Paul Molloy upended him.
