Bromsgrove Rovers 1
Redditch United 3
REDS gained sweet revenge for their shock county cup defeat by Bromsgrove with a comprehensive victory on Bank Holiday Monday.
The visitors were first to show in this Dr Martens League Western Division fixture at the Victoria Ground with Bromsgrove goalkeeper Nore Gabbidon forced to make early saves from Ross Knight and Mark Smith.
On the half hour mark, the deadlock was broken when defender Matt Bytheway failed to boot the ball to safety and Reds striker Michael Moore pounced to slide the ball past a helpless Gabbidon.
Redditch doubled their advantage three minutes before the break, this time an error by skipper Mark Bowater allowing Adam Nicholls to beat Gabbidon in a one-on-one.
Three second half substitutions brought the home side to life, with the pacy Peter Sutton, Patrick Bannister and Graham Brown combining to provoke a few scary moments for the visiting defence.
They reduced the arrears on 80 minutes through Bowater's close range effort from Kevin Ashley's high ball.
But Rob Smith's men had the last word with sub Paul Danks heading home Jamie Hart's right wing cross with five minutes to go.
Redditch: Adey, Knight, Randall, Manton, Molloy, Farmer, Field, Nicholls, Cross (sub Hart 78), Moore (sub Danks 70), Smith (sub Burke 90).
Attendance: 678.
Man of the match: Ross Knight
