REDDITCH UNITED (1) 1 Stourbridge (2) 2

The Reds' season lies in tatters after Saturday's abject performance saw them submit to struggling Stourbridge.

Redditch put in one of their worst performance of the season as a complete lack of passion, commitment and guile saw Redditch slump against the Glassboys, who even had to survive the final 32 minutes with 10 men after Luke Yates was dismissed.

But it all looked so rosy in the sunshine as Redditch took the lead with less than two minutes on the clock.

Micky Moore couldn't believe his luck when a corner by loan signing Dominic Reece was allowed to reach him at the far post for the easiest of tap-ins.

The goal failed to open the floodgates as Stourbridge responded with live-wire striker Anthony Briscoe guilty of wasting two opportunities.

Redditch were unfortunate in failing to double their lead after 25 minutes from another Reece corner. Nicky Cross rose to head the in-swinger against the underside of the bar before it hit a post and was cleared by the visitors defence.

Cross turned creator 10 minutes later, driving the ball low across the box which was met by Pete Barry who was inches away from opening his Reds account with a diving header.

It kept Stourbridge in the game and they took full advantage with two Christy McKenzie goals in the space of 90 seconds.

The former Red poked home his first in the 43rd minute after the ball had pinged around the six-yard box.

His second, on the stroke of halftime, saw the powerful striker head home Luke Yates' corner from 10 yards.

A shell-shocked Redditch side almost fell further behind from the start of the second half, when McKenzie almost grabbed his hat-trick with another header, Yates again the provider.

Stourbridge had the bit between the teeth as they looked to take advantage, Briscoe capitalised on a defensive lapse by Barry to storm through on goal, but the Reds defender made amends with a last-ditch challenge as the shot was fired.

The Glassboys should have wrapped up the match with less than an hour gone when they were awarded a penalty after Tommy Byrne had tripped McKenzie.

Yates was given the honour but he struck it high over the bar in what proved a miserable three minutes for the midfielder as he received his marching order two minutes later after lashing out at Reece.

It left the referee little option after he already booked him just eight minutes earlier.

Despite the man advantage, Redditch failed to carve open any real opportunities, the closest they came was in the 73rd minute when Paul Moore supplied Micky Moore, but his header lacked the power and direction allowing Ben Dyas to clear.

The one bright note from the 90 minutes was the performance of Reece, on loan from Hednesford, who slotted in well at left back.

As for Krystof Kotylo, he showed a couple of neat touches but failed to stamp any authority on the game when it was needed.
