DISTRICT councillors are set to reject a chance to install traffic lights at a dangerous Bourton road junction because they do not want to pay for them.

The Station road junction with the A429 Fosse Way has a bad accident record and is also the scene of long queues of traffic waiting to pull onto the A429, especially in the busy summer season.

Residents have long been calling for lights to be installed there, and Gloucestershire County Council has offered Cotswold District Council the chance to have them, but it wants the district to pay half the £150,000 cost.

District councillors meeting in Cirencester tomorrow (Tuesday) are being urged by officers to reject the offer because traffic lights are a county responsibility and this could lead to the county asking for money for many other sites to push through road improvements.
