The installation of a new stained-glass window in the Priory Church may be an opportunity to remember how the Malverns have inspired works of great beauty and interest in some well known figures.
Byron was smitten by the Priory Church tower; Evelyn Waugh by Madresfield; Shaw by the gnawing destruction of the Hills; the work of Elizabeth Barrett, Elgar, Masefield & the architect C.F.A Voysey were also influenced by the landscape, and Langland was influenced by both the landscape and Little Malvern Priory. Our luscious environment may also have motivated Jenny Lind to perform. And today the pure water of the Hills has provoked a surge of interest in decorating our spouts & fountains.
The portraits of the famous, and some pictorial evidence of their skills, plus glimpses of our landscape, might grace the new window. Not only would this be a reminder of our cultural heritage and our beautiful surroundings, but visitors might be invited to sit awhile and, by gazing at the Window of Inspiration, find personal direction and fulfillment.
