EVESHAM'S Train brothers are jetting off to Sydney today in their quest for canoeing gold at the Olympic Games.

For Steve (38) and Andy (36), it will be their fifth successive Olympiad and their best result as a pair has been a sixth place finish in Atlanta four years ago. Andy finished sixth in the individual event in Barcelona four years earlier.

The experienced members of Fladbury Paddle Club are taking part in the C2 1000m and 500m events and form part of a seven-strong Great Britain squad.

The Trains, who finished sixth in the European Championships in July, will be in heat action at the newly constructed course on Tuesday, September 26. Their main hope of a medal - the 1000m final - is scheduled for Saturday, September 30.

"We are still in the top six and anybody can win a medal," said Steve, who lives in Cropthorne.

"We have a preference for a headwind and that's supposed to be the prevailing wind in Sydney, so we will wait and see if the course and the conditions are in our favour."
