IT must have been one of the hottest days of the year on the river on Sunday as Evesham Club crews had to make the best of a fickle breeze from the south over a long course set by Mike Long.
Peter Green won both races which were part of the Lionel Cooke series.
With a start downstream towards the weir the first race was one of waiting for the wind.
Green sailed the wrong course and had to put right his mistake which allowed Roger Middleton to close for a while but the gap in the end continued to widen. It was Green first, Middleton second and David Way third.
Green was quickly into his stride in the second event and wasn't to be caught.
The second and third places were well fought for with Middleton, Roy Pickles and Bill Bailey giving their best.
The latter - a founder member - is leaving the club and competed for possibly the last time.
Green finished first, while the the last ten metres decided the other places with Pickles second and Middleton only just stealing third.
