Droitwich Firsts 12
Old Halesonians Firsts 14
Intermediate Cup Round One
A SIZEABLE crowd at Hanbury Road watched Droitwich First XV get knocked out of the Intermediate Cup in an entertaining clash.
Halesonians applied the early pressure and Droitwich simply did not wake up until the scoreboard read 0-14.
Missed tackles saw the visitors' centre score near the posts, and an intelligent run by the Halesonians winger set up the second try shortly afterwards.
It was only then that Droitwich got into the game with both Jamie Faulkener and John Fideo going close but the defence held.
Half time saw the introduction of try-machine Rob McClean, who immediately made an impact with a blistering run.
This set up a passage of Droitwich pressure culminating in scrum-half Matt Blackmore edging over from short range. Mountjoy added the extra points.
Droitwich continued to press but didn't seem able to retain sufficient possession to seriously threaten. Eventually, McClean scored in the corner but Blackmore's conversion to level the scores fell short.
