THERE'S a new sound in Temple Guiting thanks to a generous gift from Devon.
Parishioners at St Mary's Church have been enjoying the sounds of a new organ, or rather a restored one, originally built in 1873 but given to Temple Guiting by the trustees of a Unitarian Chapel in Moretonhampstead, Devon, when the chapel was declared redundant.
With help from local donors and charitable trusts and bodies the organ has been restored and installed and has had its first use. Organist Peter Forshaw said: "That organ had been standing there for two or three years unplayed and unlistened to.
"The sound is absolutely beautiful."
To celebrate its arrival the church is holding a recital with top organist Paul Derrett on September 30, at 7.30pm.
It includes a service of dedication by the Venerable Hedley Ringrose, archdeacon of Cheltenham.
