THE Very Tired Resident of Severnside North (Letters, August 24) has my sympathy. I live in Bewdley on a road with much passing traffic.

By Bank Holiday Sunday lunchtimes, dozens of motorbikes have already gone roaring past. Several expressions come to mind to describe the tedious, jarring drone of their engines, but sweet wouldn't be one of them.

Why do they have to come here, and why should local residents have to put up with the disturbance?

It merely adds to that from car drivers with loud stereos who seem to think they have the right to disturb residents at pub closing time with the moronic thump-thump-thump of their so-called music, often loud enough to make my whole house shake.

Decibel-wise, many of these incidents probably constitute statutory noise nuisance - what happened to the Government's pledge a couple of years ago to bring in legislation to stamp out this noise pollution?

Doubtless a concerted action campaign by fed-up locals could help improve the situation.

In places like London, riverside pubs and restaurants are at a premium and highly sought-after.

Those in Bewdley could profit greatly from a change of atmosphere and clientele - as would the Severnside residents, in a different way.
