PETROL supplies were virtually non-existent across the north Cotswolds today (Wednesday), causing concern for motorists and emergency services alike.
East Gloucestershire NHS Trust, which runs hospitals in Winchombe, Moreton and Bourton, as well as Cheltenham General, said its main problem was a shortage of fresh food. It has reduced services to staff and visitors, but says patients' meals will not be affected.
Social services too are feeling the pinch and home care assistants are being asked to walk or cycle to visit people in their homes. Managers say they are concerned that if the crisis continues they may run into problems in calling on people in outlying areas.
