CHARITY-MINDED cyclists crossed the finish line in Hanbury after completing a fundraising ride on Sunday which is believed to have scooped more than £21,000.

More than 800 riders completed the ten or 26-mile course of the North Worcestershire Bikeathon in glorious sunshine.

The fine weather encouraged 50 extra enthusiasts to register on the day.

If all the money pledged comes in, the bikeathon will have beaten last year's total of £19,700. Organiser Nicole Harris urged riders to collect sponsorship money quickly -- the deadline for payments is October 27.

There were prizes to be won for the highest totals for teams and individuals, children and adults. One team of ten from Stoke Prior paintbrush company LG Harris, has been pledged £1,000.

Michelle Lineker, the wife of former England footballer Gary, had to pull out but has promised to make next year's ride. Others would not be stopped -- a team of 20 choristers from St John's Church, in Bromsgrove, rode from the town to the start point at Mere Hall, Hanbury.

They completed the 26-mile course and got back to the church for a wedding at 3pm.

The finish line was also at Mere Hall.

Nicole added: "I am very grateful to everyone who took part. It was a fantastic day."
