DANCERS in Rubery have waltzed their way to raising more than £2,200 for charity.

Students at the June Green Dance School, including one 88-year-old man, were sponsored to dance all day at the annual fundraiser.

It was in aid of The Acorn Children's Hospice and St Mary's Hospice, in Selly Oak.

Local charities will also benefit, including the Heather Preen Trust, named after a Rednal girl who died of the disease, which funds research into E-coli and stands to receive more than £200. The dancing was part of a charity day held last Saturday which also included a tombola with 140 prizes and a sale of nearly new clothes.

More than 100 people joined in the fun.

Organiser June Green, who runs the dance school, said donations and sponsorship money were still coming in and hopes they can beat last year's total of £2,400.

"It was a lovely day and I am very grateful to the people who helped me," June said.
