WITH reference to the article regarding the Severn Trent Works, Bromwich Road, Worcester (Evening News, Saturday, September 2) can I just correct an impression you have conveyed that I am dissatisfied with the response from OFWAT.
That is definitely not the case. Their response was sympathetic, most helpful and speedy. They have promised to consider implementing a formal investigation if I am dissatisfied with the response from Severn Trent.
At the time of writing, I have not received a reply from Severn Trent but if their response as reported by you is that "smells are inevitable", almost certainly I will be dissatisfied and a "formal investigation" will be made by OFWAT.
I am most dissatisfied with the response from the City Environmental Services Department. Explanations that it is not in the public interest to invoke this statutory legal powers are wholly unacceptable. They have had years to do something and to come up with such a ridiculous explanation as that is to turn logic on its head.
Perhaps it is more in the public interest to have to endure the most outrageous smells instead.
I'm awaiting a written response from the Environmental Services Department asking for a good reason why they have not invoked their powers years ago, certainly before 1998, when a lethargic, ponderous approach was decided upon to cure the problem.
