IT is a great pity the Labour opposition cannot accept the successful outcome of the council's negotiations with ASDA regarding the extension to their store.

The proposal has ensured the viability of the Rovers football ground. It will bring about additional car parking spaces in the middle of the town with a three tier, partly sunk car park, make a financial contribution towards a much-needed arts centre and enlarge a popular town centre supermarket.

The opposition constantly complains about giving away the council's rights over the existing car parking facility and excluding other supermarket operators from building on the Rovers ground. We have always intended to continue the present car park to remain as such, and true to our green belt policies never intend to build on the football ground. Did the Labour opposition have plans to dig up the car park and build on the football ground, just as they wanted to build on the Recreation Ground? The public of Bromsgrove are entitled to know.

Cllr Alan Dent,

Whitford Ward,

Bromsgrove.
