YOUNGSTERS in Redditch are set to benefit as the Redditch Millennium Volunteers (MV) project gets off the ground following a successful partnership bid for £225,000 to run the national youth volunteering scheme.

The three-year project, operated by Redditch Council, NEW College and RCVS, is currently recruiting people aged 16-25 to get involved in community projects and schemes.

Project volunteers will be able to take part in organising celebration events and there will also be chances to get involved in regional and national campaigns such as promoting the project at music festivals and other events.

After completing 200 hours of voluntary activity, youngsters will receive a nationally recognised MV award showing their achievements and contributions to the community.

Sam Cox, MV project manager said: "Many young people see volunteering as hard graft with no pay but Millennium Vouchers will offer a wide range of opportunities including music, art, drama and environmental work.

"Youngsters tell us what they are interested in and we find them a placement or set up a project for them to work on.

"All expenses are paid and qualified training is provided."

The official launch will be on Saturday, September 30 in the Kingfisher Centre where youngsters will be able to speak to project workers and take part in displays and workshops.
