PARENTS are upset about the way Worcestershire County Council plans to revise school catchment areas following the Redditch Review.

Parents from Vaynor First School, in Headless Cross, and Harry Taylor First School, in Crabbs Cross, objected to plans which would mean their children would only be allowed to attend Dingleside Middle School in Woodrow North.

They feel they should be given the option of sending their children to Walkwood or Ridgeway middle schools, which are nearer.

A county council education advisory panel met last week where councillors were sympathetic to the parents' argument, even though the education department had recommended its proposals remain unchanged.

Councillors have now requested the situation be reviewed by officers before the matter is settled at an executive committee meeting in October

Parent Sally Harris, of Woodberrow Lane, Crabbs Cross, said: "At the moment we would be allowed to send our daughter to Walkwood Middle School, which is 15 minutes down the road.

"But if these plans go ahead she would have to go to Dingleside, which is 40 minutes away.

"There was a public meeting in June and we believed that the county council would take our views on board but then we find that they are still recommending their original plans."

Mrs Harris was grateful to members on the advisory panel who requested a review.
