A WHEELCHAIR-bound Redditch man who suffered a stroke 18 months ago is being forced to sleep in his living room while he waits for alterations to his council home.

Charles Taylor, 57, of Ashorne Close, Matchborough West, has also been unable to have a shower since the stoke.

Now his furious daughter, Susan Taylor, also of Redditch, has hit out at Worcestershire Healthcare Trust and Redditch Council for denying essential alterations, which she says would have improved his mobility.

Miss Taylor says that her father, who has lost the ability to walk or talk, is forced to sleep in his living room, with his wife Margaret sleeping on the settee so she can tend to him.

Miss Taylor said: "They haven't even put a simple handrail in his house and we just keep getting fobbed off with a different story.

"Surely a disabled person should at least have a rail in the house so he can stand and have a stretch."

Miss Taylor said her father's doctor had recommended an extension to his house with a downstairs bedroom and shower.

She added: "You wouldn't let animals live like this and it's heartbreaking."

A Redditch Council spokesman said: "We are still working to meet Mr Taylor's needs under our Care and Repair scheme.

"There have been some delays, mainly due to changes in design and installation by the occupational therapist from Worcestershire Healthcare Trust and the client.

"We were also waiting for design quotations from architects which we now have and we promise to carry out installations as soon as possible."
