A PENSIONER needed hospital treatment after a frightening attack in which she had her shopping bag stolen.

The theft happened at about 9.15am on Saturday in Shawhurst Lane, Hollywood.

A 65-year-old woman was walking to the shops when a car containing two men approached her.

One jumped out of the car and snatched her bag containing a small amount of cash before getting back into the car. It drove off in the direction of Truemans Heath Lane.

As a result, the woman fell over and received cuts and bruises and was treated at the Alexandra Hospital for a broken thumb.

The thief is described as being black, 18 to 20, about 6ft, athletically built with a clean shaven, smooth-skinned face.

He wore a blue baseball cap with light coloured logo and a blue zip-up tracksuit-type jacket with a white stripe on each arm.

The driver was black, of a similar age and wearing a dark top.

The car was described as a small, red, saloon. No other details are yet known.

DC John Marsden said: "This was an unprovoked and frightening attack on a defenceless lady in broad daylight.

"I want to hear from anyone who witnessed this or saw such a car with the two men in it, either before or after the incident, to call 584888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
