Redditch 46,

Woodrush 20

REDDITCH Rugby Club took on Woodrush from a league higher in this intermediate first round cup match.

Their superior fitness and collective teamwork paid off in the final 20 minutes.

Redditch started playing up the slope, but within a couple of minutes Woodrush took the lead through a penalty, only for Redditch to reply immediately after.

In the space of the next 10 minutes, the Redditch forwards put immense pressure on Woodrush, resulting in good ball for the backs with scrum half Matt Park touching down after a well-worked move from a scrum. Hooker Gillmartin also scored, from a quick tap penalty and both tries were converted by Morris, together with another penalty.

Woodrush scored early in the second half with a penalty and then took control, introducing three substitutes, which helped raise the pace of the game and resulted in three further tries for Redditch, scored by Park, Gillmartin and Hadley.

Man of the match was newcomer to the club, Ron Skelton.

Redditch are away to Old Silhillians in a league game on Saturday, September 16.

Redditch 2nds 10, Worcester 3rds 4

REDDITCH made a winning start with a try from P Tipper, but soon realised they were up against a well-drilled side, with one or two second team players coming back from injury in their side.

A good half-time team talk from captain John Coote saw an improvement in the second period with good performances from Low and Painfull, an excellent defence and a well-earned second try, this time from Nelley.

Their were good performances from vice captain Glen Francis, Oldfield, Bradley, Painfull and man of the match Andy Carr.
