I attended a meeting, called by Diane Thomas, the Abbey ward councillor, on September 3.
The meeting was to allow Diane Thomas to feed back on the progress of the action she has taken on various problems raised by the tenants and private houseowners of Abbeydale.
Only 11 people turned up to the meeting.
Diane reported she was getting nowhere with the various civil servants whom she contacts about our problems and therefore she had little to report.
Some of us have put our names down to represent the tenants of Abbeydale in the new Tenant Participation Compact.
The idea is to form a tenants' group which will have input on decisions and have the power to identify problems affecting Abbeydale.
There is a meeting for all council tenants of Abbeydale on Sunday, September 17, at 11am at Arthur Jobson House.
This is a chance for council tenants to form a group which can have direct contact and involvement with the decision-makers on the council, their landlords.
I urge tenants and anyone else interested to attend the meeting as it is our chance to get action on many problems we constantly identify. Please support local democracy directly.
